Bridging Barriers is a free mentoring initiative which was founded in October 2020, aiming to bridge the barrier that young people aged 16-25 from disadvantaged backgrounds and ethnic minority individuals face today. Unlike some mentoring programs that we have seen, this program is not industry specific. It is not just for individuals who are looking to get into the corporate world. We cater to all individuals who have a goal of getting into their field of interest, for example Music, Sports and Art. We try our best to accommodate to everyone’s needs. The most common things our mentees tend to require help with is their CV, Cover Letter, Interviews and career advice.
In addition to helping young people with career development, we also help with their personal development. Our mentors help individuals with issues like low self confidence and self-esteem and soft skills e.g., communication, leadership and teamwork, which are all important skills that firms tend to look for when hiring. We realise that personal development is very important to the growth of an individual, essentially helping them fulfil their full potential, realising their worth and looking at life from a more optimistic lens. We also understand that many may suffer from imposter syndrome and feel like they are not good enough to reach their goals and targets, hence why we offer personal development mentoring as this helps to tackle these issues and helps an individual realise their self-worth.
